Nancy and Evan expressed concepts to promote VFP. These included giving demos at Visual Basic User Groups and creating articles for non-VFP magazines. Why don’t we define a Concept Paper, to point those of us who are interested, towards how and what to do in regards to “getting the word out” about VFP?

Some thoughts: We should define what types of systems are being used as well as in use, by business today. This includes client/server and web applications.

Why use VFP as a front end development tool?
Create a list – local cursor (specific data on users machine and not on network. How would you use this feature (not a part of VB)? With VFP 7.0, we will have a third generation OOP tool (yes, OOP in VB 7.0 will be in it’s first iteration). This equates to a stable well developed platform – I have been using OOP and VFP for six years for Oracle, Sybase and SQL Server front ends. It takes minutes to create a form (using my library), and get a connection with resultant data set. Try that with other products! Makes a nice demo – I know as I have done this for IT Directors and they are impressed!

Demo a solid application,
which used an application development tool like VMP, VFE, etc. Include a security system and show how easy it is to implement. Have your security set down to the object level. That blows the socks off VB developers!

Demo use of VMP, VFE, etc.
to create a small application at a user group meeting.

We could get into any area that is of interest to application developers where Visual FoxPro shines best.

Use your imagination and experience to create a list of what you would demo to other developers or IT professionals.
