Thanks you very much. Your example gave me the string layout I was looking for. I was missing the "UID" setting and getting the connectionstring in the right order. It does not appear to care whether I use UNC or relative mapping.

This is what made the activex olecontrol work for the connectionstring:
Extended Properties="Driver={Microsoft Visual FoxPro Driver};UID=;SourceType=DBF;SourceDB=R:\finacct\bankv6"
