May be listview would work better, I don't know. The original class was designed by another developer, but then I found, that it doesn't work correctly with lots of items, so I created another class with multiselect grid. For number of items less that 40 I use multiselect list, for others I use multiselect grid. I guess, I may use grid for all cases, but I was just lazy to re-design the whole form.
