Upon entering UT, that variable is set to 0. Then, the refreshing of those values, where the first refresh kicks in immediately, updates this value to your default forum. This is then used to forward you to your default forum archives in regards to your choice. If for some kind of reason, the refresh is not executed, that value will not be setted, thus the error.
