David,

I suppose if you test it, you do this in DE or on a DE-machine;
might it be so that on this machine you have (ever had) another drive with the same dir-structure ? I mean, once you move (drag) things from one drive to the other, in the VCX the drive-letter may not have been replaced, and refers to the drive you have (incl. classes) but your customer hasn't.
I would look in this direction.
