David;
Unfortunately, having Visual FoxPro “in the box”, did not impress anyone I have dealt with. IT directors all the way through other developers (non VFP) could not be impressed to use VFP. Reasons given have been hashed out many times but the main one given in the San Francisco Bay Area has been the Microsoft sales persons – they talked in negative terms according to dozens of people (decision makers) I talked to. Others read negative press or heard negative comments from fellow professionals.
Some places I have worked have refused to use VFP! There are very few VFP houses in Silicon Valley – just check out how many UT members are in San Jose, California for example – there must be a reason. I realize that VFP is really hot in some areas of the country – but even VB is not too popular here – it is Java time in our area.
There are a few establishments that use VFP in my area – but they can be compared to a fire fly in Las Vegas at night - not too impressive! We do have a new Microsoft building in Mountain View – perhaps there is someone there we can contact and see what can be done to improve things locally.
Tom
