Destination??? The APPEND FROM definition in the manual doesn't seem confirms your statement. Because, if this is entirely true then what's the use of the 'FOR' clause? Nothing! Be reminded that the source file reference of the Append From statement without DBF() clause is the physical table. And so, records in file cursors and buffered tables are not all recognized until it were saved or committed in the disk.
Using SELECT combined with APPEND FROM in this case is redundant in nature in my assessment. Might as well use SCAN FOR...
