Hi Jerry,
>American Samoa. My other Samoain friend was Peta Sunia, is now (was?) governor in AS.
I've been to AS a number of times...once on my sailboat, and a few times in the last few years, to work. They seem to be able to be holding on to many of their traditional ways, which is nice to see.
>He had married an American woman while he was here and had a kid. They went back to AS but after a couple of years she and the kid came back. She couldn't take the curltural change.
Have you read/heard of the book "My Samoan Chief" - written by an American/English woman who married, and lived in Samoa...she really couldn't take a lot of the communal sharing of ANY and ALL material posessions (an uncle could just walk in the house and decide that he wanted a chair for himself).
