That was a good suggestion, so I tried it and it worked fine. I went back to my original report and re-entered the field once more; voila, it worked. So I played around and made an interesting discovery: If you copy-paste a field and replace its expression you get unexpected results (i.e. random page numbers). So, is it a bug? or one of those things MS doesn't really consider a bug and we users just have to be aware of it.
