What I ended up doing was changing the CDataSession property from CPrivateSession to CDefaultSession, at least then, the event can see all the data.

BYW, any hints/tips on debugging COM servers?

I'd have to think this one through more carefully, but I believe MM bizobjs have the option of participating in a default data session or a private datasession. I'm also pretty sure you can set the datasession on the fly, but I'd have to research how to do this more carefully.
