>The slow project loading after installing VS SP5 was solved by reinstalling IE. Everything now appears to be running normal.

Since nobody else seems to have had any other problems with SP5, I'm just adding my experience.

I've had some problems with comctl32.dll, and one of the things MS recommends in similar cases (of course the original problem is not found on MSDN) was to reinstall IE5. I've had the W2K SP2 reinstalled on my machine, and discovered the amazing fact that there were three versions of the offending .dll, all with the same version/subversion/build/shoesize numbers (5.58.3101.1000, I think), but having different sizes and datetimes. The bad version of the file had the creation date of March 2001, and the last update date of May 2000. Go figure. Haven't tested on the machines where we had the problems, so I can't be sure I can quote your second sentence :)

This .dll is called from comctl32.ocx, which is version 6.0.something, and there's an interesting tip somewhere in the MSDN articles, telling users who switched from VB5 to VB6 that the .ocx is the file they need, and that they don't need the .dll anymore. Simply running depends.exe proves this wrong.
