I got my feet wet in VB with "Visual Basic 6 from Scratch" by Donald and Oancea (QUE)... had a lot of typos in the source code IN the book... but the code on CD was correct... and it emphasized 3-tier coding (you create a 3-tier app).

As for Access...... I don't have a good book for that one... I hated Access.
