Chuck,
You absolutely CAN do a search with a basic membership.
1. Hold down the shift key and click on the Search icon above. Be sure that the search form comes up in a separate window. Search for what you want. Scroll down below the notices to see the search results.
2. To see messages that you've found in your search, return to the original window and use the calendar icon to bring up the calendar window. Use the calendar interface to navigate to the day that the messages in your search occurred on. Click the blue number on the calendar for the day you're interested in to bring up the messages.
The secret is having two windows so you can still see the list of messages from your search. I used this method for several months before I was able to pay for my subscription. (I have not asked the University to pay for any of my online activity.)
>I am going to ask for if the University would pay for my membership in UT. In the meantime, I can not do a search (since it reqiures membership).
