How about:
A combination of art and professionalism that makes a project exiting yet predictable.
Any behavior that assures sexy,speedy, powerful, stateless - neverbreak interface and data platforms that enhance the lives of everyone participating in the project an on schedule (Everybody wants to be loved!).

A best practice could also be any behavior that expands and enhances our skill sets - if your goal is to be part of that next mega software team.

Another best practice could (also) be any behavior that forcloses the risk of living in a van down by the river:-) (my favorite)
