I saw a system crash completely, hard drive FULL, because the memo field somehow got into a loop, each iteration for the session had ALL the memo data for the session, fortunately as SOP the system had a daily back-up to a local drive, so we were able to restore the previous day's master & reload the transactions, and the memo file went from 2GB to about 200k!

It is SO easy to do an aDIR() and copy all files to ./archive. I'm surprised it isn't a default on file creation somewhere! I also have stopped expecting clients to make backups, ( they can't seem to remember to change the tape! ) so I make sure there are copies of the data!

Then I warn them of the insurance situation if they don't have an off site backup! Now that they can make an archive without locking the server, things go much better! The tape ( or CD ) may always be a day old, but that satisfies insurance requirements, and I work from the local disk backups , haven't had to use a tape in years!
