Curtis,
>I watched Castaway the other night (on DVD) and thought it was reasonably good until the guy got home... and the whole time Tom Hanks is back in civilization he never say, "You know for four years I speared my own fish, this is a damn luxury." Or any thing about his experience. He never once mentions living on that island and the things he went through.

>What's up with that?
It's been awhile since I saw it...but my thoughts (which are partially related to my experience) is that people couldn't really relate to HIS experience - or he couldn't adequately describe it. Perhaps only conversing w/a volleyball for 4 years, he was a bit out of practice, conversation-wise.
He also seemed a bit in shock ("culture shock" in a way).
Also, oc, * we * saw what he went through, so no need to show those conversations to enlighten the audience...and I expect that his survival was publicized so that people (in the film) did have an idea of what he went through.
Was funny, watching that movie from a tropical island...lots of laughs when he was trying to open the coconut!
