>Assembler? Yikes! If I have to deal with any amount of data, I try to stick with VFP. If it is more of a controller type of app, I do it in VB. It just seems to go easier and the choice of controls out there is very broad. At present I'm experimenting with a combination of the two, just to broaden my knowledge.

I guess it all depends on background, for controlling h/w I feel much more comfortable in assembler. In my first job, pre-PC days, programming was done in Pascal, debugging was done at assembler & machine code level - we quickly became proficient in coding at machine code level - it was the quickest way of testing a small mod. Several jobs since have been embedded systems, where memory is at a premium & even the most cut down C had too much overhead. The real fun starts when you're writing assembler for different processors at the same time, I had a short period of developing a Teletext receiver using a Z80 processor & writing device drivers for the PC (80x86), Atari (68000) & Acorn (RISC processor) all in assembler.
