Ron,

Just to make sure we're looking at the same thing,
Top bar, sixth button (magnifying glass)

Brings up form with the following:

Search in the full archive of messages
This search extracts all messages ....

Search for Type your search words in this box
Category
Period Choose a time period or check this box apply the search on the last four periods
Type of result All messagesOnly the first message of the thread
Member ID Show category

To search more than the last four periods you have to search through the time periods individually.
