Hi Nadya,
as I understand the above, you will drop the Grid ,alter COLUMNCOUNT and the new control appears. No I did not know a way to that. As mentioned before I never alter things like FORMAT etc. within the designer. I like to do this in a speciales hook class, so I may control all such properties depending on language, user or so. I simply create a grid with COLUMNCOUNT=-1 and add the columns and all there Properties later.

But - if you like there is an untested kludge.

Drop the Grid
Change COLUMNCOUNT

Add the alter code from to an extra method, let's say ChangeCtrlOnDesign

Move Mousecursor over the grid (better grid's container is selected)
In Foxpro's command window enter loCtrl = SYS(1270)
