Sorry about the long delay answering this, but I do very similar validations to the word list/story example you mentioned using the OnChange() and OnClick() functions, and it works perfectly. Don't forget that JavaScript is case sensitive - a real hassle for us spoiled VFP types.

Hope you found the DejaNews useful - I usually entered "JavaScript" followed by one or more of the functions I was trying to debug. I found some great tutorials that way, too.

>Thanks, Barbara. I was hoping to be able to use javascript to handle some things on several forms. (Some of the data that one of the forms collects is a bit redundant. I would like to use javascript to fill in some values for me.) For example, if a student scores a 6 on the wordlist, then the teacher should have administered story 4. Rather than having the data entry person enter the word list score of 6 (in the word_score field) AND also enter story 4 (in the story_read field), I thought it would be good to use something to fill that in automatically. (This would also ensure that proper information is entered.) I really would prefer not to have the data structured the way it is, but that part is out of my control! lol
