Jerry as always, your comments are right on target, and well thought out.
If we take what Bill has the ability to do, and take it to the next logical step. He could find a way, to enforce that way of thinking to all applications VFP / VB VC++ Where would that leave us. and people like us, who use Linux servers, becuase we need the stability, speed, and price, but love the front end gui tools which are avail with VFP ? I can't imagine going back to the dbf format as a database server. But the next step would be for use, MsSql server or nothing.

Its enough to make me seriously consider, looking at kylix, (sp) or something else entirly, Too bad there is not another good windows Xbase option,... unless I am missing something.

One final point, in response to something you said earlier, about moving away from VFP and feeling sad about that. I am in a very similar spot now. My company, has just moved to an Informix based server enviorment, where Ill be using something called System builder for reports Maybe odbc with VFP if I need to but publishing on the web, is with a RedBack, and JSP enviroment. Not much use for the old fox anymore with what I am envolved with. I know I have seen the last app Ill ever develop with a 'network' design in mind, its now all client server. p.s. after two years plugging away with my various Linux's boxes, did give me a much better handle on how to manage a IBM RS6000 running AIX. So while you are moving off into oracle, and Kylix, for me, is Informix, -Unidata, and maybe, Ill keep the skills up with VFP, and find some use for some apps. I still love the gui which is avail, and the logic behind it all.

Remember the DotPrompt ?.. well maybe One day, Ill be saying, remember the command window. ?

Thanks
Bob Lee
In the beginning, there was a command prompt, and all was well.
