What I did is write a program that 1) builds the exe, 2) moves it to the appropriate folder (use the RENAME command), 3) does several other things specific to my needs, like (a) add a sequential number to the executable; this allows users to go back to a previous version, and allows me to do the update while users are working with the executable; (b) keep the last 30 versions, but erase older versions, (c) make a backup to another folder, (d) copy additional files (e.g. the latest version of the help file).
