>i am trying to help a chap who runs a small pizza joint. he has a system written in clipper which has developed a table problem in one of the files. i tried over the weekend to find free utilities on the net to repair header problems, but was met with very little success. all the records are in the file and seem to be correct, but the clipper program can't open the table. it opens fine in vfp. i have tried all sorts of things, and this morning out of desperation tried importing it as a database into word. i get an error message saying that the table is locked. could this be the reason why it can't be opened by the clipper program? and if so, has anyone any advice as to getting it unlocked? any suggestions/utilities greatly appreciated. the guy is struggling financially and i am doing this as a freebie just to try and get him up and running again.

John,

First off: which version of Clipper are you talking about?

I don't know if CA have discontinued their Clipper support, but there is a utility called DBU.EXE that will let you access Clipper dbf's & idx files.
It's a kind of Command window interface that will let you do all sorts of maintenance.

Also Norton Utilities (6.0?) for DOS will let you repair dbf's.

My first try would be CA. They've got patches & SP's. If not, get back to me.
