>CDX bloat or no, and reindex speed aside, if the cdx header gets corrupted, you cannot reindex. So why try to use reindex? I just tried a reindex on a million records which took 13 seconds. There are three tags, field1, field2 and field3. The 3 index on commands took 11 seconds.
Hi again, Mike,
I ran a test with 10,000,000 records (of 34 char. each) with 4 indexes.
The file sizes were: DBF= 341,798KB; CDX= 220,159KB
Re-booted between REINDEX and rebuild technique. The timings were:
REINDEX: 312.690 seconds
Rebuild: 320.362 seconds
It's clear to me (now) based on this and other reports that there is virtually no difference between the two techniques!
So sticking with whatever one uses already is the most practical option.
Oh well, at least I learned that there's no bloat with REINDEX.
Cheers
