I keep CDX files in a seperate dir. In an event of index corruption I copy the empty cdx over the old one and reindex. Deleted relations are manageble as well in some way (e.g. recalling records in the database) but keeping a copy of the empty CDX files is just comfortable enough for me.

I think its just a matter of taste. I see no real advantage of using one strategy over the other.
