>Microsoft has released to manufacturing the newest version of its popular Visual FoxPro development system, which will be available for purchase in July. Visual FoxPro offers developers a data-centric, object-oriented language for building database applications, including desktop, client/server, and Web-based solutions. Features and enhancements include support for XML Web services, Microsoft SQL Server Data Engine 2000, event binding, and an enhanced development environment.

Wish they had mentioned this is the fourth generation of Visual FoxPro, which has been object oriented since it’s first released version in July of 1995. My point is that the “flag ship” premier development language from Microsoft – known as Visual Basic, will be released in a few months and it will be it’s first object oriented version. Version 1.0 of any software product is to be suspect in my book. In fact, I never start a client’s version number with 1.0. In this case Visual Basic 7.0 will be a version 1.0, .NET and object oriented in one box.

O.K. guy’s – I use VB too – but I love VFP. I use whatever development tool I am paid for.

Tom
