This message has been marked as the solution to the initial question of the thread.
>I have a table of customers. One of the fields is the custid (n 5,0) used in relationships with other tables. On one of my forms ( a simple form built with form wizard), I want the client to be able to add a new customer and have the custid field updated automatically. Right now it prompts the user to enter the value of the id. Most of my users aren't going to use the correct id. I would like the next available number to be used automatically. Any help would be appreciated. If this is unclear, another way to put it is I want a field similar to those found in MS Access (type: AutoNumber). TIA

Take a look at the article Primary keys at http://www.craigberntson.com/Articles/kb006.htm
