Mark,

In a situation where both parent and child records are being added in the same process it is necessary to know the parent’s primary key into order to add the child records. I use the same approach when updating SQL Server and Oracle data. I call a stored procedure using SQLExec() to retrieve the next available ID. Default values work great if your adding or appending multiple records but I prefer to handle adding primary id’s in my business classes in a order-entry environment.

BTW, how do I setup my account to copy the original message into my reply?
