Exactly, that is the problem with many books in that an inefficient approach is always used. Bill Vaughn wrote the Hitchikers guide to VB and SQL Server. A smart guy and one that I have been privledged to meet and talk with on several occasions. Still, I guestion whether these folks build real applications. I get the sense that they don't.
In pure numbers and in theory, Bill may be correct. For all practical purposes and in reality, I don't think it makes a difference if you use the good practices.
