Hi David. In many many cases, I have found SET KEY to be much quicker than parameterized views (or SELECTs, or SCAN WHILE, or, in fact, anything else).
I know that SET KEY is a bit old-fashioned looking, but I think it's perfectly acceptable when it's the best solution, performance-wise. I certainly don't put it in the same category as the old FIND syntax, or public variables, or format files.
It's often a better solution than parametized views.
