If you read the whole thread, you will see that I changed my position on this issue. I first believed a UI to send and receive email was a requirement for an application to be an mail client. I changed my position after I read the
TechNet's definition of a mail client. The fact that the user cannot send or receive email using the IE interface does not appear to exclude IE from being an mail client.
I posted the original question because my client and I had different views on this subject. I found information that leads me to believe his position is correct. He was happy to hear that I found some relevant information on the web; neither he or I care about winning, we just wanted support documentation to back up our positions. We did and we closed the issue.
