>>I am a speed-reader and read over 1200 words a minute <<

Woody Allen : "I took a speed reading course and read War and Peace in 15 minutes. It's about Russia." < bg >

FWIW I took Evelyn Wood long ago - very useful - I've helped a lot of people improve their reading skills by just convincing them it's okay to use their finger. Great for information gathering - technical reading. Very good insights into how the eye/brain thing works and the dangers of sub-articulating if you are trying to cover a lot of ground.

But when it comes to reading fiction - or, for that matter good history - if the style does not compell me to want to hear the words in my mind at the speed at which they would be spoken, I won't read it. As Truman Capote said - "That's not writing - that's typing."

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
