One of the issues I have found in this area is opening tables. When a table is opened, the entire contents is transferred over the lines to the local machine. One of my apps took over 10 minutes to open a table and display a form being executed over an ISDN line!

We re-enginerred the database and applicaiton using SQL Server and parameterized remote views to only access one or a very few records at a time and the forms open almost as fast over the ISDN line as they do on the internal network.
