Chris,
I just spent some time looking at your WWC app. How long did it take to convert the app to the web? weeks, months, years?I had been playing around with WC for about a year and a half or so. I would get the demo up and going, follow some or Rick's tutorial steps and then have to do some real work. Next time I got back to it, Rick would have a new version out and I would download that and start the process over again.
Finally, in december or january I decided to actually do it. Along with working on all of my desktop (or client-server products), I would say it took me from January to May to get it where I wanted. During that time I had to learn some HTML, javascript, stateless programming, Internet/NT/hacker security. I wish I had kept a good project log and really tracked the man-hours -- but I didn't. If I had to guess, I would say 400-500 man hours (????)
Also, are u hosting it yourself - on a server in your office? Or are you using a hosting company? Am curious about the monthly costs.I am using iqNetworks out of Charlottesville, Viginia. I bought the compaq server and they are co-locating it for me for $100 per month and $35 for e-mail services (i didn't want to build and take care of a mail server too!). It cost about $360 in setup and they allowed me physical access and gave me a lot of free help (Note: they can't do that for everyone, obviously). Contact is Win Winfree at
wwinfree@entrechv.com .
What is the backend? VFP, SQL, ...That version is using VFP, but there is no reason I couldn't use SQL*Server or Oracle. I just did VFP because I was in a hurry and it works great!
Hope this helps,
Kevin
