I know about pre-processing, because I used this idea couple of times. It really helped me, when I have to insert a blank page, if group ends on the odd page (see March 2001 FoxTalk Cathy Pountny article about it).

Just few days ago I finished a project, which produces a really nice report, called Custom Mortage Market Share Report. The report uses lots of variables. Ysterday I had a really tough day, despite the fact, that it was my birthday. At the end of the day we had a meeting about this report. Well, they want few minor features to be add. For instance, for each town I print 30 top lenders on a page. Number 30 is a report varialbe called cutoff. Now, if the featured lender (the bank, which purhcased this report from us) is not in the top 30, we want to print 29 top lenders and at the last position the featured lender. So, now I should either complicate my logic, or add cutoff as a field in my table... I should also change all print when expressions...

I spent my time, energy, brain power designing this product, now I have to do bunch of modifications... Sometimes it's really depressing... But the worst case is when you spent a week or more working on some product to finally find out, that company manager decided to not offer it anymore...
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
