24 and 32-bit color depth let you display millions of colours simultaneously. Actually, I thought your color depth was less: perhaps even 16 colors (4-bit), which might cause some display problem.
Since this is not the case, stick to the other suggestions in this thread: either experiment with fore- and back-colors, or leave the colors at the Windows default.
It is usually considered good practice to leave colors at the Windows default: this gives the user more control over his own computer.
