-- one piece of advice I give to anyone working with VSS is to *not* integrate it with the VFP Project Manager (I give the same advice to VB people). Instead, treat SourceSafe as a file management tool that is external to FoxPro (or VB or whatever). Check out the files you need before you work with them, do what you need to do, check 'em back in.

I have experienced both performance and file corruption issues doing it any other way. The only drawback to the approach I advocate is that you might begin coding something, and then realize you haven't checked it out. Yes, that's a pain. Trust me: before you know it you will be so used to checking files out before making changes that it becomes second nature. I'd bet that you'll screw up and have to backtrack once or twice, and then you won't forget again.

(Actually, I guess there is another drawback. You can do some cool things with SourceSafe and ProjectHooks, and under my approach you'd be missing out on it. Still, I think it's the best approach.)
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts. - Bertrand Russell
