>Folks, just pay attention. The Microsoft of the future is setting its main thrusters on web technologies. Any applications that relate to stand alone computers are now also-rans, as it is BG's vision that all computers will be interconected, and there will be no more stand alones. either hardware or software. This vision includes your home alarm system down to the range and refrigerator.

That's no vision.. it's available today. You can now buy a refrigerator, that has a scanner embedded in it. Now, imagine that you use the last of the milk. You scan the milk carton and it sends a message to the store that you need milk. When you arrive at the store, you pick up a handheld device that has your shopping list stored in it. When you go to check out, you scan and bag each item yourself and it automatically charges your credit card.

>Wireless technologies are envisioned to eliminate access and bandwidth problems, with lasers doing it for the LAN.

I don't totally buy this. For example, have you ever tried to browse the web through a wireless phone? Also, at somepoint, the wireless bandwidth will not be able to hold all the signals. For secure communications, wireless won't cut it. People won't want to encrypt everything because of the time it takes to encrypt and decrypt.

>The advertising and hype is as if everyone will be expected to turn off all existing technology at X hour and embrace the NEW.
