Do a search in the files section for MSCOMM32 or download ID 651 I think.. There is a quick little example on how to use MSCOMM32.. I've used it myself for retrieving information from a WorthData TriCoder (a handheld barcode scanner). The scanner can simply shoot out the data to the port without checking anything and that's how I use it now since it is the simplest method.

The control does allow for some basic handshaking but I have not experimented with anything more complex. As the scanner has Xon/Xoff, I use that. The scanner will support XModem protocol but I have not figured out how to take advantage of that as of yet.
