Victor,

Absolutely not. I had exactly the same situation about two years ago and gave the guy ample opportunity to take care of his responsibility. I stopped the work and within about a month I received a check. He asked me if I would continue the work and I told him I would, but on a retainer basis. He refused, I went my way and he went his. I found another contract within a week and I'm sure he ended up paying a fair amount to someone else to finish to project - or not. :-) I felt very fortunate to just get the last check. I now will immediately stop work unless the payment agreement is upheld (a few days is not big deal depending on the situation). The most I may lose is two weeks (net 14, same as yours) and both sides know exacly what is expected.

I don't go into a store expecting to walk out with goods and not pay. Neither should a client.

>Was it wrong to give him the ultimatum or was in the right to do this? I have to admit to being a better programmer than a business man but I felt that if he was gonna go under and/or "burn" us I'd make the debt be as little as possible on my part. Any advice for the future when dealing with him.
