I'm sorry Bill. I don't do a lot with views so I haven't encountered this. If there is not a user contention issue here, then what comes to mind is some sort of rights issue for the user but I'm sure this is shooting in the dark. Have you been able to determine the exact file that is "in use"? After creating the view, have you tried closing the related tables and then indexing the view? Perhaps someone else has seen this specific problem and will jump in.
