>It is even simpler than that, I made no such presumption. You can look at profit as one of the costs of a for-profit business. Profit is sucked out of the business into the owners or shareholders hands. In a non-profit business, the profit can be returned to customers, lowering the cost of the product. All things even though.

Well, look.. If that was actually the way human behaior worked I'd be delighted. Here's the 'rub' though.. Would you be willing to voluntarily give up your livleyhood for the benefit of others? Most would not be.

Let's say you're married, have a mortgage, car payment, health costs (we're not always healthy you know), a new baby on the way, etc... Give up your job? I doubt it. Not only that Evan, tell me how easy it is in Canada for a departmental manager to release someone, not for cause mind you, but to lower costs in order to pass those on to the customers. Private industry is more able to do this I'd think..

I do understand the notion of how you're looking at profit. Governmental agencies need this as well. Remember, their equipment also wears out too. <g>

Your comment "All things even though" just isn't an accurate reflection of 'real life'. Absolute equality just doesn't exist and never will.
Best,
