As others have stated, there are 2 types of consultants. The first knows his stuff and can walk into a potential clients office confidently, and charges accordingly. The second knows doesn't have that broad of a computer knowledge, probably has very poor business knowledge, and charges very low because he knows it.
Unfortunately, the second group is caught in a catch-22. The don't think they can afford to pay to increase their knowledge, so they stumble around.
