as a side note - The Mere Mortals Framework has this exact same functionality (quoted above) built into it. With that aside, I personally think the registry setting is right idea here.

If you need help with using the Visual FoxPro Foundation Class for registry settings, there is a topic in the VFP6 Help File called "Registry Access" that should get you moving in the right direction.
