We were in the process of moving to Sacramento - I am not kiding about your timing - as I went into the house in Minden, with the moving truck full and ready to go, with the family in our car, I was about to disconnect the telephone, lock the door and begin the trip. Just then the phone rang - it was you! You knew I was moving August 1994. You said: "First the good news! It will be 110 degrees today. The bad news - there will be no breeze"! God, you were correct! I will never forget that trip and unloading the truck!!!

Mark;

When it comes to CodeBook I go back to version 2.0 – that thin book that did so much! CodeBook 2.6 was good and I attended the Satellite Training session given by YAG in 1994, in Campbell, California.

We were scheduled to have lunch with YAG, July 1994, in Palo Alto, and he had to cancel at the last minute - his publisher wanted him to finish CodeBook 3.0. Sally got me 35 copies in advance (for our user group) and I drove up from Santa Clara to Sacramento to get the books. When I got home - I had a house full of Sig Group members waiting anxiously for their copies of the CodeBook. My wife thought we were crazy – if she doesn’t know by now she never will!

Yes, I used CodeBook 3.0 from the start – even attended the Flash Road Show is San Francisco, November 1994. That was a great week of training! After several projects with CodeBook (the grandfather of all Visual FoxPro frameworks), several things were apparent. You had a great deal of overhead and with the speed of computers at that time (100 mhz was king) it was very slow. As computer speeds passed the 200 mhz mark – it did not make too much difference that the framework is a bit “heavy”. I have gone on to other frameworks – some were based upon CodeBook and others not. Visual FoxExpress and Visual MaxFrame Professional are my favorites – and there are many others.

Com CodeBook looks very interesting and I am going to put together an application using it. You might want to contact YAG and ask him about his plans for Com CodeBook. Be sure you visit his site and say hello!

If you decide to use ComCodebook, you might want to do an analysis of the framework. This might best be done with others who have used it. On first reading of the documents (download them from YAG’s site) I think I might want to architect the overall concept to be as “lean” as possible. That approach may have value but you are the real judge!

From the sound of it your client needs a quick analysis and results. this is rough on you and the client. I just have the feeling someone did something very wrong and the question is - what next!

If I can be of any assistance let me know. I can take a day off of work and drive up to your clients site with you and we can take a look at what is required and what has to be done. I would not charge you or your client for this. Remember that saying: "What goes around comes around"? Well, I remember your support when I needed it and I will not forget your encouragement! Just don't schedule the day when it is 110 degrees with no breeze!

Stay cool this Summer and may you not enjoy any blackouts!

Tom
