...not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but ImageMan is an activex imaging control that can do *most* of what you are talking about..

Check out their web-page: www.data-tech.com

Its activex control is an interface component that uses the twain interface to request the scanner to obtain the image ....it is then rendered on the control.

You can also use it to save to particular file format ... you'd have to create
your own record and link it to the image file or embed the image in a general field on your vfp table.
