No way, Marcelo. We'll have to set up the excellence awards for the rest of the world by ourselves!

Here is the messages I exchanged with Tamar Granor, on one of the Foxforums on CompuServe, not long ago.

Hi Tamar,

What a deception when I read that the Visual FoxPro Excellence
Awards contest was reserved to "legal residents of the United
States". In another document it is said that "All developers in the
United States ena Canada building solutions with Microsoft Visual
Foxpro are eligible to participate in the program (program not opent
to residents of Puerto Rico or Quebec)".

I know you're not responsible of that, but what a deception! I have
a very decent app ready for the contest, and i can't even compete.

The reason for the restrictions is lawyers, of course. The rules
had to be approved by Microsoft legal for each country in which the
awards are running. We were able to get MSFT US and MSFT Canada to
approve (with the noted restrictions) in the necessary time frame.
(In fact, as the discrepancy in the documents indicates, Canada was
a fairly late addition.)
I am sorry about this because I know there are lots of wonderful
apps world-wide, but it's a lawyer-thing.

Hi Tamar,

I supposed it was a lawyer thing, but I am still sad of this lack of
volunty. When it comes to sell their products, Microsoft lawyers
always find a way, or am I wrong? Same with FPA, if I agree to pay
nearly twice the price of domestic customers because of higher
postal fees, I can subsribe to it.
