PMFJI, but how long after the fact can you file a claim? I have a former client who left the state (Texas) without paying almost 2 years ago. There was a dispute, and they showed no interest in working toward a resolution.

A valid claim is good forever, but may only be litigated within the limitations period. The limitations period for contracts is usually 3 or 5 years (contracts for land often longer). Your state statutes determine the limitation. Most state codes are on the internet. Search on "Limitations of Action".

I suspect that 2 years is well within the limitations period.
