I'm not sure if this is a viable option for you or not, but I have done something similar by using the CTRL+UPARROW and CTRL+DNARROW combinations to move the selected record up or down in the list. I did it by simply exchanging the contents of the current record with the previous or next record and moving the record pointer. You will need a good underlying index order to make this work well.
