I seem to remember UPS making a big noise about only allowing a few "chosen" developers to port apps into their system...Perhaps I misunderstood.

I have had very good luck with Azalea fonts (azalea.com). They are a good value for the money. Some other mfgs. require their DLL to encode the font text. I want to say that UPS uses Interleaved 2 of 5, I'll try to hit one with a verifier today and see. Only Code39 is available as freeware, you will have to purchase other codes. All non-Code39 fonts will require some computations(i.e. checksums) to construct the text for the barcode font. Azalea provides sample code for this. Ideal size is determined by several factors. First, all codes have an ideal aspect ratio (relationship of bar and whitespace width). Secondly, all codes have a minimum bar width. Lastly, UPS and FEDEX may have a published spec, and some companies will penalize for "non-conforming" barcodes. I find that I have to experiment with font size to optimize the printed barcode.

Hope this helps, let me know if I missed something!
